The operating hours for the HPE building are being reduced by an average of 12 hours, but it may affect fewer people than the numbers may appear. Timothy McInnis, Health and Physical Education Facility Coordinator since 2007, who had a part in making the decision, said that it was mostly the morning hours and Saturdays that are being cut.
After ten successful years with the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC), LSUS will be joining 14 other schools in the Red River Athletic Conference. Men's basketball and baseball and women's soccer have all brought home one or more regular season and conference tournament championships, establishing LSUS as an athletic force to be reckoned with.
The city of Shreveport has made its own contribution to help relieve Haiti. The non-profit event, Cité Lespwa, was held on the Centenary College campus to help raise awareness and funds for Haitian orphans. Cité Lespwa lasted one week and raised almost $50,000.
"Remarkable," said Trey Gibson, LSUS debate coach and instructor, in regards to his championship-winning debate team's performance this weekend. The debate team won the LIFA Tri-State Championship for their second year. The tournament brought in teams from four states including Ole Miss and LSU-Baton Rouge.
Tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m., president of Morehouse College, Robert Franklin, Ph.D, plans to give a community address at LSUS on "The Foundation of Educational Success." Though a guest speaker may seem ordinary, some are concerned about the message the speaker's arrival may imply.
